CWM (Christian Women's Ministries) Originally formed as the Women's Council in 1949, the name was changed in 1950 to the Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF) and was most recently changed to CWM (Christian Women's Ministries). Our first president was Ruth Pidgeon, who served as CWF State President from 1968-71. A budget was established with 50% for local expenses and 50% for missions. The ladies of the congregation were divided into six groups, but over the years this has been reduced to three groups. Named for women in the Bible, Phoebe Group meets the second Tuesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. Mary Group meets the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m., and Deborah Group meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Groups do not meet in January or February. Since 1951 we have held a Mother/Daughter Banquet in September with many interesting programs. In 1983 our first Holiday Tea ushered in the Christmas season the first Saturday in December. Over the years there have been many themes, and this year's theme is "That's Entertainment!" At our May Breakfast high school and college women graduates are honored. Our annual Sacrificial program is held during Lent and is open to everyone. On service days twice a year the ladies make lap robes, bibs and walker bags to be donated to local nursing homes. Also in April and October clothing give-aways are open to the public. We host the blood draw in October providing cookies, orange juice and coffee to the donors. Individual groups provide health kits for Church World Service and bring food and paper products for the local Food Cupboard, Your Father's Kitchen and the Clinton County Homeless Shelter. Money is donated to the Cleveland Christian Children's Home and "Shop with a Cop" program. Over the years we have studied many interesting topics including books of the Bible, people of the Bible, continents, nations and Christians in other lands. The CWM commitment is to develop a deeper understanding of Christ's love and salvation and to provide channels of service to our church, community and world. CWM is an active participant in Church Women United (CWU). Benediction: God, be merciful unto us and bless us; and cause Your face to shine upon us; that Your way may be known upon the earth, Your saving health among all nations, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. |
