Weddings

First Christian Church is pleased to invite interested couples to have their wedding at our church.  We hope this page will answer any preliminary questions you may have about our services and facilities.

 Church Membership

You do not have to be a member of First Christian Church to have your wedding in our sanctuary.  If you are interested in becoming a member or would like more information about the church, please let us know.

 Minister

We require that our minister officiate at all weddings held at First Christian Church.  Be sure to call and arrange an appointment with Pastor Tom.  He will want to meet with you at least twice to get acquainted and to talk over the ceremony.  If you need help with any other information, please contact the church office (937) 382-2251.

 Scheduling Your Wedding and Fees

 Music

Our Church Organist is available to provide music for your wedding.  To contact the Church Organist call the church office at (937) 382-2251.  Pre-recorded music is not permitted.

 Rehearsal

You will have a rehearsal the evening prior to your wedding.  During the rehearsal the minister will walk the wedding party through the ceremony.  Rehearsals usually last between 45 minutes and an hour.  Please ask all participants to arrive a few minutes early, so that we may begin on time.

 Parking

First Christian Church is located in a residential section at the corner of Columbus and Walnut Streets.  The church parking lot on the east and south sides of the building has a total of 64 parking spaces.  There is some curb side street parking on the west and north sides of the building.

 Wedding Assistants

            We suggest that you arrange for the following assistants:

·        One guest book attendant (also responsible for getting the book to the reception)

·        One or two persons to take gifts

·        Someone to pin on corsages and boutonnieres

·        Someone to transport the flowers to the reception

·        Someone to transport gifts from the church after the wedding.

·        Someone responsible for the rings

 Wedding License and Fee Balance

Be sure to obtain your wedding license at least 14 days prior to the wedding date.  The balance of your wedding fees are to be paid at the rehearsal.

For your wedding ceremony we offer:

·        A beautiful sanctuary that seats approximately 275

·        Pipe Organ and Grand Piano

·        Handicap-access to sanctuary and rest rooms

·        Dressing rooms

·        Amplification system for soloists

·        Kneeling bench

·        Two 7 branch candelabra  -  (Family furnishes own candles.)

·        Two plant stands that match candelabra

·        Two vases on stands that match candelabra  -  (Have liners to take to florist)

·        One large brass cross

·        Two large brass matching candle holders.  Large candles may be purchased at Christian Book Store.

·        Three walnut crosses of different heights.

·        Two tall wooden plant stands.

·        Three different height plant stands.

NOTE:  The church DOES NOT have a Unity candelabra.  The bride and groom must provide Unity candelabra.

            The bride and groom must also provide an aisle runner if one is desired to be used.

             Please check with the church office or pastor for other possible needs.

 General Rules for use of building

1.                  An Application for Use of First Christian Church Facilities must be obtained from the church office and completed.  It must be approved by the Trustees and OWM Board (if kitchen is requested).

2.                  No rice, confetti, seed or other material are to be thrown at weddings.  Bubbles are permitted outside of the building only.

3.                  No purple or red grape juice or punch is to be served at receptions or meetings.

4.                  No smoking is permitted in any part of the building.

5.                  The use or possession of alcoholic beverages / illegal drugs is not permitted in any part of the building, including outdoor church property such as the parking lot.

6.                  No tape is to be used on walls, doors or ceiling.

7.                  No fastening to walls or ceiling in any manner without permission of the Custodian.

8.                  No lighted candles are to be used in Fellowship Hall, or the Sanctuary, unless they are covered with Hurricane globes.  (Exceptions to the rule are for the two 7 branch candelabra and Unity candelabra.)

9.                  No electrical appliances without prior approval.

10.              No flowers are to be place on the organ or piano.

 Other Important Details

Purses and other valuables should always be left in someone’s care and not in the dressing rooms during the ceremony.  First Christian Church is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

You and your guests are welcome to use the church’s nursery.  It is, however, your responsibility to assign someone to monitor the room and straighten it after the wedding.
